Legionella symposium in Ebersbach
On 4 September 2024, we hosted a customer day on the topic of legionella and many of our customers accepted our invitation. Our location for this event was the ‘Alte Mangel’, a wonderful half-timbered house directly opposite our laboratory. We organised specialist presentations and laboratory tours on the topic.
After a brief introduction to our company, selected aspects of the Drinking Water Ordinance (TrinkwV) published in June 2023 were discussed by our Managing Director. Dr L.-P. Gollnisch, lawyer, then provided information on the legal aspects of legionella in water. Examples from practice and the sometimes contradictory case law on the subject provided an aha effect.
Our head of sampling explained suitable sampling points – and the differences that still exist between theory and practice. Sometimes our samplers face challenges when the sampling points are installed in unsuitable areas. Together with our customers, however, we find a solution for every problem.
For legionella in drinking water, the 12/2022 amended recommendation of the Federal Environment Agency for evaluation is particularly relevant. This has resulted in a change in the results. In addition, since mid-2023, suitable measures to combat legionella must be taken as soon as the technical limit value of 100 CFU/100 ml is reached, not only when it is exceeded. Our head of microbiology illustrated aspects with calculation examples. Many people found it interesting that legionella fluoresces under UV light and how different the colonies can look.
At the end of the event, information was shared on what to do if action values for legionella are reached. In the case of such findings, further measures and a risk analysis are necessary.
During the subsequent tour of the laboratory, our customers were able to get a comprehensive impression of our company and talk to employees.
Thanks to our customers for the positive feedback and to the entire TUA team for their team effort in organising this event and bringing it to life!
